My Records Till End of WW II

Born 24.11.1920. Did 14 years country style schooling in far west South Australia. Left school 24.11.1934. Carried on farming on parents’ farm from then until wars end.

Volunteered for Army Service in 1939 but was sent home to carry on producing whatever we could (wheat and wool) to aid the war effort, together with my elder brother and mother. My father had passed away many years prior to that, so was pleased to be able to do that.

I married my long-time sweetheart in 1943 and took over mother’s farm, and carried on in the same wartime spirit in my own right till the wars end. How we were all relieved when that happened. But my word we missed our monthly dances, dubbed District War Fund Raising Effort.

I do honestly think everyone of us deserves a medal.

I had 4 brothers and 2 sisters doing Army, Air Force, and Munitions Services, myself and brother farm service.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
